Disciples: Who are they? What did they do? Part 3
We see that the apostles were cultural “nobody’s.” They could not command an audience based on their credentials. However, Christ chose them anyway. Jesus’ intentions were to pick men whose hearts would be yielded to the Gospel. The intimate fellowship of these men with their Savior was their ultimate purpose, and because of that relationship, they are more famous than the most popular persons of their time. They have become time transcendent just like their Lord.
It is just the same with you and me! We are here to show a witness of God’s work in our lives. Our sole purpose on this Earth is to reflect our intimate God-focused relationship with Him. Contrary to the popular notion of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we are called to pick up our “cross” and carry it even unto Earthly death for the sake of Jesus. Why? Why would God want us to do that? Well it is precisely what the self-focused, narcissistic world needs to see. And as Servants of the Most High God, we are called to do it. We serve because we have been served. We love because He first loved us. The closer we walk in obedience to His word, the better we become. Our true purpose is death to self and imitation of Him.
How well do you do that? How were you taught to do that? Do you need a discipleship relationship? E-mail me, I can help you with that!
